Dr. William A. Elder, Medical Director

William Elder became the Medical Director of Country Court in 1994.  He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1972.  He attended The Ohio State University majoring in Microbiology. The Bachelors of Science degree was awarded in 1976.  From there Dr. Elder studied at the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio where he received his medical degree.  He completed a family practice residency at Wright State Affiliated Hospitals in 1983, serving as Chief Resident his senior year. He has been board certified in family practice since his graduation from residency program.

In July of 1983, he opened a family practice in his hometown of Fredericktown. He joined American Health Network of Ohio in 1996. The office in Fredericktown currently employs a staff of 3 Nurse Practitioners, as well as, a Physician's Assistant. 

Besides being the Medical Director at Country Court, Dr. Elder has had many different appointments over the years.  He served as a Team Physician for Fredericktown for over 25 years. In 2012, he retired as the Medical Director of Hospice of Knox County after 20 years. Dr. Elder served as the Chief of Staff for Knox Community Hospital from 2000 to 2002, was on the board of directors at Knox Community Hospital from 2003 to 2006 and was the president of the Knox County Medical Society from 1992 to 1994 and now currently serves in that role. He participates in the Pre-Med Preceptorship Program at the Nazarene University and has medical students rotating through his family practice.  

Dr. Elder has won several awards during his time as a physician.  He was honored with the Ohio Family Physician of the Year in 1994 by his peers. He was also the Distinguished Rural Health Practitioner in the State of Ohio in 1994, the Red Cross Health Care Hero of 2006 and the VNA Physician of the Year for Knox County in 2008.  Dr. Elder was a top ten finalist for the American Family Physician of the Year in 1995. 

In his spare time, Dr. Elder enjoys construction projects, travel and entertaining the community with his numerous floats during the Fredericktown Tomato Festival.  He has served as a board member of the Fredericktown Community Center Project and the Fredericktown Community Foundation.  Dr. Elder is a member of the Methodist Church in Fredericktown. Dr. Elder is married to his high school sweetheart, Mary. They have 3 children: Elizabeth, a family physician who will enter a psychiatrist residency program in the near future; Laura, a special needs preschool teacher; and Tim, who works with troubled youth. All of the children are married and he has four wonderful grandchildren.
