Dr. William A. Elder, Medical Director

William Elder became the Medical Director at Country Court in 1994. Dr. Elder graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1972. He attended The Ohio State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1976. From there Dr. Elder went to Wright State University School of Medicine where he received his Medical Degree. In 1980 Dr. Elder worked in the Wright State Affiliated Hospitals in their Residency Program in Family Practice. He was the Chief Resident from 1982 to 1983. Dr. Elder passed the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1981 while in his Residency Program. He has been Certified by the American Board of Family Practice in 1983. Upon finishing his Residency Program, Dr. Elder opened a Family Practice of his hometown of Fredericktown in 1983. Dr. Elder then decided to join the American Health Network of Ohio in 1997.
Besides being the Medical Director at Country Court, Dr. Elder has many different appointments. He has been the Fredericktown Team Physician since 1984, the Medical Director at Hospice of Knox County since 1992, participates in the Pre-Med Preceptorship Program at the Nazarene College since 1983, is also the Medical Director at Autumn Hills Care Center since 2003 and is a Clinical Professor since 2002 for the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine. Dr. Elder also served as the Chief of Staff for Knox Community Hospital from 2000 to 2002, was on the Board of Directors at Knox Community Hospital from 2003 to 2006 and was the President of the Knox County Medical Society from 1992 to 1994.
Dr. Elder has won several awards during his time as a physician. He has won the Ohio Family Physician of the Year in 1994, was a Distinguished Rural Health Practitioner in the State of Ohio in 1994, the Red Cross Health Care Hero of 2006 and the VNA Physician of the Year for Knox County in 2008. Dr. Elder also was a top ten finalist for the American Family Physician of the Year in 1995.
In his spare time, Dr. Elder enjoys reconstruction projects, travel and the Fredericktown Tomato Festival. He is also a board member of the Fredericktown Community Center Project and the Fredericktown Community Foundation. Dr. Elder is a member of the Methodist Men's Group including mission work and has participated in the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with the Boy Scouts of America in 2001. Dr. Elder is married to Mary and they have 3 children Elizabeth, Laura and Timothy and 2 lovely granddaughters.
